Full Tour Itinerary
Select Day:
Day 1 - Edinburgh/Glasgow - Glen Coe - Loch Ness
Departing from Edinburgh and Glasgow, we make our way into the beauty of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
At Loch Lomond, Britain’s largest lake, we’ll make a stop in the delightful village of Luss so you can enjoy the vista over the “bonnie, bonnie banks” to soaring Ben Lomond one of Scotland’s most famous mountains.
Tour along the banks of Loch Awe, passing the romantic ruins of Kilchurn Castle, then drive through the Pass of Brander, scene of a famous battle. Look out for the Falls of Lora as we travel over the Connel Bridge and make our way into Benderloch and Appin.
Brooding Glen Coe is next. The outstanding beauty of this place belies the tragic tale that we’ll hear next. Gather round as our guide takes us back to 1692 and tells the story of the Massacre of Glen Coe when Campbell soldiers slaughtered 40 MacDonalds who had been their hosts. This infamous deed remains controversial to this very day.
From Fort William, we head westwards along the scenic “Road to the Isles” to see the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct. During the summer months, we might be lucky enough to see the real Hogwarts Express steam across the viaduct, just like it did in the Harry Potter movies!
Also at Glenfinnan is the poignant monument that commemorates the highlanders that died during the 1745 Jacobite Uprising. It has a stunning location at the head of Loch Shiel.
The Great Glen slices 60 miles across the width of Scotland. This dramatic valley follows the line of a massive geological fault line and provides us with fantastic loch-side views as we travel to the Loch Ness area, our home for tonight.
Overnight: Loch Ness
Day 2 - Loch Ness - Inverness - Edinburgh/Glasgow
After breakfast, we’ll start exploring legendary Loch Ness. As we tour along the banks, keep a close watch, just in case “Nessie”, the Loch Ness Monster makes an appearance!
You’ll have the chance to take a monster-spotting cruise on the loch to see the impressive ruins of Urquhart Castle, once one of Scotland’s largest castles.
A short drive will take us to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands, then to desolate Culloden Moor, the site of the last battle ever fought on British soil.
The Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie met the Government forces here in 1746. The Jacobites were routed in a bloody clash, and the aftermath changed Highland life forever. During our visit, you can discover more about the battle and the dramatic consequences that followed.
The Cairngorms National Park is an area of stunning natural beauty, as we will discover. As we journey through the Spey Valley, the Cairngorm Mountains, which rise to over 4000 feet, provide a striking backdrop.
Wild mountain vistas surround us as we start our descent of the Drumochter Pass, the main route to and from the Highlands since the earliest of times.
There are fine views of Blair Castle, the seat of the Dukes of Atholl – the only man in Britain allowed to have their own private army, The Atholl Highlanders
Make a stop for refreshments in the heart of Highland Perthshire, a land of scenic valleys, remote glens, rushing rivers and peaceful lochs.
Finally, we join the highway for the journey back to Edinburgh.
If you are returning to Glasgow, you'll be dropped at Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station to make the final part of the journey by train. There is a frequent service and the journey time is around 50 minutes. The train ticket is included in the tour fare.

I would recommend this tour to anyone who doesn't have a lot time to explore the Highlands on their own. You are able to visit the main attractions and have plenty of time to explore them by yourselves and take photos. Our guide Alex was a very knowledgeable guy who told us many interesting stories while on the coach. He also made the plan ahead clear to us at every stage of the tour so we could know what to expect.

The tour was amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been to the Scottish Highlands before. We drove about 300-350 kms over 2 days. Many of the sights were simply breathtaking. Our tour guide, Graham, was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable about all the places we visited, he stopped at a few well-chosen (non-touristy) locations so that we could marvel at the views and take photos, he was very friendly and took a personal interest in everyone in the group. He went above and beyond throughout the tour. We stayed overnight at a lovely inn in Fort Augustus, at the foot of Loch Ness.
