Full Tour Itinerary
We start our journey of discovery with a drive across the Firth of Forth to reach the ancient the Kingdom of Fife.
Historic Dunfermline Abbey is a great Benedictine abbey founded by Queen Margaret in the 11th Century. It is also one of Scotland's most significant royal sites being the resting place of several monarchs.
The famous Scottish hero, Robert the Bruce, is buried in the abbey's choir. We will discover more about his important role in Scotland's history during the tour.
After exploring the Abbey and the nearby Palace, we will travel westwards, following the River Forth, to reach Stirling.
Mighty Stirling Castle is set high on a volcanic plug over-looking the city. Our stop will allow a leisurely visit to the castle where you will have a chance to see the splendid Renaissance Royal Palace of King James V and the magnificent Chapel Royal where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned in 1543.
The views from the castle ramparts of the imposing Wallace Monument with the Ochil Hills as a backdrop are simply stunning.
We make the short drive to the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, where the Scots led by Robert the Bruce had a famous victory over the English Army of King Edward II in June 1314. The victory by the Scots was an important step in gaining independence from English rule.
At the foot of the Pentland Hills is Rosslyn Chapel, whose intricate carvings and ornate interior have been a source of mystery for centuries. In recent years it has found world-wide fame thanks to Dan Brown’s book, “The Da Vinci Code”.
Could this be the final resting place of the Holy Grail? You can visit the chapel to learn the myths and legends that surround this remarkable building.

Steven B our coach guide for the tour provided excellent historical snippets to/from the site visits and also additional trekking tourist spots that we could visit in our individual spare time ... like the views of Edinburgh City from atop a hill.
