Full Tour Itinerary
Our journey starts with a drive along the banks of Loch Ness, where we’ll see the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle.
As we drive through Glen Shiel, look out for the towering peaks of the mountain range known as “The Five Sisters of Kintail”. As we drive through this picturesque valley, we hear the story of the battle that took place here in 1719, which involved 300 Spanish troops against the supporters of King George.
Fairytale Eilean Donan Castle is our next stop. Set on its little island on Loch Duich, this iconic fortress has starred in numerous Hollywood movies, including the James Bond hit “The World Is Not Enough”. We’ll find the perfect spot for a snap of this incredible castle.
Cross “over the sea to Skye” and follow the picturesque coastal route, enjoying the amazing vista over the sea lochs to the little island of Scalpay.
There are grand views of the mighty Cuillin Hills as we make our way to Portree, the island’s main town. We’ll stop here so you can discover the town on your own and enjoy time for lunch. The colourful houses surrounding the harbour make an excellent backdrop for an “I was there” selfie!
After lunch, head to the Trotternish peninsula, where you’ll see some of the most spectacular landscapes in Scotland. We’ll stop for photos at The Kilt Rock, Mealt Waterfall and The Old Man of Storr. We’ll also admire the fantastic Quirang, a vast and ever-changing landslip, one of Skye’s highlights.
The next stop will be iron-age Dun Beag Broch, where you can climb up this ancient fort and enjoy the views of Skye’s beautiful landscapes. Or you can observe one of Skye’s best-preserved brochs from a distance. Brochs are stone towers unique to Scotland and thought to have been the home of a local chieftain.
We’ll visit the Sligachan River, which runs from the Cuillin Hills. Legend has it that the river has magical powers. Eternal youth and beauty might be bestowed on those brave enough to dip their face in its cold water,
Back on the mainland, join the famous North Coast 500 route to experience more stunning views. You’ll glimpse Loch Carron and the Black Isle before crossing the Kessock Bridge to reach Inverness.
