Full Tour Itinerary
We leave Edinburgh and head to our first stop at Midhope Castle, the setting for Lallybroch, the home of Jamie Fraser.
Next, we make for Stirling, where we’ll get a good view of its impressive Castle and the National Wallace Monument atop Abbey Craig.
Soon, we reach the village of Doune to visit Doune Castle, which is situated overlooking the River Teith. This is one of Scotland’s best-preserved medieval castles, and it was used as a setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander.
You’ll have time to walk the grounds and take some photos of this historic stronghold that also featured as Winterfell in Game of Thrones and had a starring role in Monty Python’s Holy Grail.
Our tour continues into the Kingdom of Fife, a region of great historical significance and the ancestral stronghold of the Scottish monarchs.
We make a visit to Culross, where Claire was accused of witchcraft in the village of ‘Cranesmuir’. This attractive village is the most complete example of a 17th and 18th-century town in Scotland today.
After our lunch stop, we head to the village of Falkland, used for filming 1940’s Inverness. This historic village was the country seat of the Stuart Monarchs in the 17th Century. Look out for its impressive palace and, in the grounds, the oldest tennis court in Britain!
As we cross the Firth of Forth look out for the iconic Forth Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our final visit of the day will be at 15th Century Blackness Castle. This coastal fortress was a prison and garrison. In Outlander, it played the role of Captain 'Black' Jack Randall’s Fort Willliam headquarters.
It is a short drive into the centre of Edinburgh and the end of our tour.
Please note that there are dates throughout the year when Midhope Castle and/or Doune Castle is closed for filming. When this happens a visit to Linlithgow Palace and/or Callander House will be substituted instead.
