Full Tour Itinerary
Leaving Edinburgh behind, we travel towards Stirling, famed for its impressive castle dramatically perched atop the remains of an extinct volcano. In Callander, we stop for refreshments and then, later, seamlessly cross from the lowlands into the highlands.
The Great Moor of Rannoch stretches as far as the eye can see and is peppered with little lochans and rocky outcrops. It’s one of the true wildernesses left in Europe. Next, we make a stop to take in the natural beauty of Glen Coe before making for Fort William for a short break.
The “Road to the Isles” is famous for its fantastic scenery. During our short drive, we'll pass the flight of eight locks known as "Neptune's Staircase" which lifts the Caledonian Canal 15 metres (50 ft) at the start of its journey through the Great Glen to Inverness.
A drive along the banks of Loch Eil will bring us to Glenfinnan, where we stop to view the famous viaduct known as the Harry Potter Bridge. On tour departures between 5 May and 26 September 2025, you can watch the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the 21 arches of the viaduct. Harry Potter fans will know the train as the Hogwarts Express from the popular movie franchise.
There will also be time to see the Glenfinnan Monument which sits at the head of Loch Shiel. The tower which is topped with a sculpture of a Highland Chieftain remembers the 1745 Jacobite rebellion and the Highlanders that died during the ill-fated campaign.
The beauty of the Cairngorms National Park is our next treat. As we make our way through Glen Spean, look out for the impressive Ardverikie House situated at the head of Loch Laggan. It’s featured in many movies and tv series, including The Crown and Mrs Brown.
The next part of our journey takes us through the Grampian Mountains into Highland Perthshire. There’s a stop in Pitlochry before we travel through the Kingdom of Fife and return to Edinburgh.

Connor, our guide, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the various sites and Scottish history in general. He made us laugh and knew when to leave us to our own devices. He also deserved a medal for driving us safely in atrocious weather conditions.
