Full Tour Itinerary
From Inverness head along the banks of Loch Ness, stopping to take in the view of Urquhart Castle, which stands guard over the deepest part of the loch.
The journey continues through the Great Glen to Spean Bridge, where we stop to visit the emotive Commando Memorial, which has a magnificent setting with the towering peaks of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor as a backdrop.
Next, we join the “Road to the Isles”, famed for its spectacular scenery, to reach the village of Glenfinnan. Here we’ll take a walk to find the best spot to watch the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the 21 arches of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, known as the Harry Potter bridge to fans of the bespectacled wizard.
Our journey continues along the banks of Loch Eilt and Loch Nan Uamh, where Bonnie Prince Charlie sailed for France after the 1745 Jacobite Uprising, never to return to Scotland again.
At the end of the road, we find the attractive fishing port of Mallaig, where there is time to explore and maybe enjoy a freshly landed seafood lunch.
Our return journey to Inverness will take us to Fort Augustus, where we stop for refreshments, before taking the road less travelled along the eastern banks of Loch Ness.
There’s a stop so you can take a stroll to view the Falls of Foyers, which plummet 43 m (140 ft) into the gorge below. The last visit of the day will be to the village of Dores, where the views of Loch Ness from the beach are simply jaw-dropping.

Will I see the Jacobite Stream Train?
The Jacobite Steam Train operates from 6 May to 27 September 2024. Jack was a lovely tour guide and we enjoyed not just visiting all the places on the tour but also listening to his stories. He’s a master storyteller. I definitely recommend this tour for anyone who has limited time but still want to experience Scotland.

The driver did a good job driving throughout this beautiful landscape on sometimes narrow roads. The Glenfinnan Viaduct and Loch Shiel provided stunning views from different view points. We also learnt, that scottish rain might come unexpectedly and combined with stronger wind almost horizontally. It is good to be prepared, even on a bus trip. But fortunately we stayed dry on the other stops of the tour. We also liked the tour back through the mountains on the other side of Loch Ness. A really beautiful landscape which we did not expect. Thank you to the driver.

Good all round tour, however there was too much emphasis on the “Loch Ness Monster”
