Full Tour Itinerary
We begin our journey in Glasgow, heading first to Doune Castle, famously known to Outlander fans as Castle Leoch, the seat of Clan MacKenzie. Step inside this grand 14th-century fortress to see the 100-foot-high gatehouse and magnificent hall, among the best preserved in Scotland. During your visit, it’s easy to envision life in the Highlands as portrayed in the show.
Next, we visit Culross, the setting for the fictional village of Cranesmuir. Step back to the 16th and 17th centuries as you wander through the old buildings and cobbled streets of this royal burgh on the banks of the River Forth. See Claire’s Herb Garden and the Mercat Cross, gems for Outlander fans and history lovers alike.
Then, we travel through the ancient Kingdom of Fife to Falkland, which doubled as 1940s Inverness. Enjoy lunch and explore filming landmarks like the Bruce Fountain, where Jamie’s ghost first appeared and the Covenanter Hotel, which stood in for Mrs Baird’s Guesthouse.
Our journey continues to Midhope Castle, known as Lallybroch, Jamie’s ancestral home. While entry is not permitted, the exterior offers iconic photo opportunities and is an authentic Outlander experience.
Finally, we visit Blackness Castle. This 15th-century castle was the home of the Crichton Family. Its impressive walls resemble a ship, so it was often known as “the ship that never sailed”. Fans will find it familiar as the setting for the Fort William headquarters of Black Jack Randall.
There are stunning views over the Firth of Forth before joining the motorway for the journey back to Glasgow.
